Glenglassaugh

Here we have a Highland whisky from North East Scotland. Founded in 1875 by James Moir, but soon bought by Highland Distillers, Glenglassaugh has a complex history that’s seen many closures and revivals. Thankfully, 2008 saw new ownership rejuvenate the Portsoy-based distillery and the consumer is reaping the rewards. 

During the 20th century, Glenglassaugh whisky was mainly used in Highland Distillers blends, such as Famous Grouse, with official distillery bottlings being rare. This changed following the Scaent Group takeover in the noughties, and the Glenglassaugh Revival was the first release for more than two decades.  

Glenglasslaugh single malts have a distinctive coastal character and are known for their notes of salt, fruit and honey. They offer unpeated and peated expressions, such as the Torfa, and also experiment with different casks, such as with their Portwood finish.
