Ledaig

Produced by the Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull, Ledaig is a brand of Island single malt whisky. It’s named after the original name of the area, which translates as ‘safe haven’ in Gaelic, and was launched in 2007.

Unlike the much softer and more approachable Tobermory, Ledaig is a heavily peated whisky. It uses barley that has been dried by burning peat, resulting in a 30-40ppm phenol level. Ledaig whiskies therefore have a smokey and earthy character, as well as fruity and vanilla undertones.

The flagship expression from Ledaig’s core range is the 10 Year Old, but a good entry point may be the NAS Sinclair Series – named after John Sinclair, who helped established the original distillery in the 18th century. The first release from this range was the Rioja Cask Finish, which compliments the smokey Ledaig profile with rich dark fruits.
