Finnish Liqueurs

One of the most northern and remote countries in the world, Finland has a unique culture that influences both its food and drink.

Liqueurs from Finland take advantage of local ingredients and the Scandinavian landscape. Berries are particularly common in Finnish spirits, such as cloudberry, bilberry and rowanberry. These are found in abundance in the country’s forests, as are herbs and spices – which are also often incorporated. Valhalla is an excellent example of a beverage that uses Nordic herbs such as angelica root and wormwood.

Away from berries, one of the most popular local liqueurs is Koskenkorva Salmiakki. This is a vodka-based spirit that’s flavoured with salt-liquorice. It was launched in the 1990s and is typically enjoyed as a shot or with ice.
