Grappa

A protected spirit under EU regulations, Grappa is an authentic Italian beverage that’s popularity extends as far as South America. It’s a pomace brandy that traces its roots back to Northern Italy. It involves taking the grapes, seeds and skins left over from winemaking, and distilling them into a flavourful spirit.

Due to a lack of ageing process, it’s typically clear, although a number of aged grappas have started to make their way onto the market, and these have a yellow or golden hue.

It’s known for its strong and aromatic profile, but the type of grape used will affect the flavour. This can range from fruity to nutty, and is usually enjoyed neat as an after-dinner drink.
