Since the 1890s the Rosso family has farmed vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba, so there's definitely some history with this vineyard. After taking the reins in the early 1980s, Giovanni Rosso restructured the vineyards with the aim of growing the best grapes possible. This bottle uses exclusively Nebbiolo grapes which thrive in the Piedmont region of Italy. This vintage been picked in October of 2015 when the cooler climate tends to produce rolling clouds of fog in the vineyards (The grapes supposedly take their name from the Italian word for Fog, which is apparently the best time to pick them) After blending, the wine was aged in a specially crafted French oak barrel, which uses timber from the Fontainebleau forest for a minimum of 18 months. Full bodied with rich tannins, we reckon if you serve with a game stew or venison; it'll be a match made in heaven.
