Compass Box Asyla Blended Scotch Whisky is one of the original Compass Box Whisky releases and is a superb, high quality blended malt and grain Scotch Whisky that forms part of their Signature Range (alongside Oak Cross, Peat Monster, Hedonism and Spice Tree) Compass Box Whisky Box is a small independent specialist Scotch whisky company, founded by American John Glaser who is devoted to making some of Scotland’s premier whiskies through the art of blending. Individual casks of whiskies from different distilleries are sourced which offer complementary sets of flavours and the whiskies are then blended in small batches. The big difference with Compass Box Whisky compared to lesser blends is that, after blending, their whiskies are then aged again in a new set of oak casks which vary depending on the whisky. Compass Box Asyla is a blend of malt and grain whiskies. The single malt whiskies are sourced from the villages of Alness and Longmorn (a quick websearch for distilleries in these villages will give you some major clues), whilst the grain whisky comes from Fife. There is no other blended Scotch whisky on the market that uses whiskies of this quality. Additionally 50% of the blend is malt whisky, few blends use anything like this proportion of malt whisky. The whisky components are initially aged all in first-fill American oak barrels (ex Bourbon) with a small (5%) part in refill hogshead. After blending the Compass Box Asyla is re-casked and then aged for a further 24 months. This produces a whisky with more vanilla character, more richness and more sweetness than refill casks would.
