The Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Marsala Wine Cask is a harmonious blend of three sister casks—Nos. 17/549, 17/550, and 17/563. These casks were filled in early August 2017 with the distillery’s robust and smoky peated spirit, allowing time to impart depth and complexity. After years of maturation, they were expertly married and bottled at cask strength in 2024, showcasing a rich and evocative character.

Tasting Notes

Nose

A luscious medley of rich toffee, stewed apple, and roasted peach, accented by a whisper of salinity. Sweet honey smoke intertwines with vibrant notes of raspberry jam, creating a beautifully layered aroma.

Palate

Dark fruits and indulgent sticky toffee take centre stage, complemented by ripe stone fruits and a savoury touch of smoky bacon, adding depth and intrigue.

Finish

A lingering symphony of salted caramel, juicy blackberries, and earthy tobacco, culminating in a refined, oak-forward dryness with a warming hint of white pepper.

A Word About Glasgow Distillery

Founded in 2012, The Glasgow Distillery Company is a relatively new distillery from Scotland’s largest city. It produces whisky, gin and rum, and was named Distillery of the Year at the 2020 Scottish Whisky Awards.

They create a Lowland whisky, in more of a Speyside style, made from three different types of new make spirit; double distilled peated, double distilled unpeated and triple distilled unpeated. These are aged in bourbon casks and American white oak barrels, before being bottled at 46% ABV.

The first limited whisky release was in 2018, which was followed by the Glasgow 1770 single malt range just a year later. This series includes a peated, and triple distilled. Limited cask strength bottlings are also available.
