Taiwanese whiskey has been a "thing" for some time, since 2008, in fact, but the highly anticipated Kavalan whiskeys are now available in Europe! This malt whiskey barrels used Ruby Port, Tawny Port, Vintage Port from Portugal to finish initially whiskeys matured in American oak. Kavalan Concertmaster was named Best in Class at the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2011. View Brownish red. Nose Tropical fruity scent with honey, vanilla, coconut and candy floss. Mouth Taste full-bodied, rich, natural sweetness and complexity.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Red grapes and clove, followed by a good whack of vanilla

Palate

Brown sugar mixed with ground cinnamon and white pepper, doused in good Port

Finish

Raisins, prunes, strawberry jam and another pinch of tobacco

A Word About Kavalan

Here we have Taiwan’s leading whisky brand. Located in Yilan, in the northeast of the country, the distillery opened in 2005 and has grown into a leading name in world whisky.

Using water from the nearby Snow Mountain, and taking advantage of the hot and humid Taiwanese climate (which speeds maturation), Kavalan whiskies are known for their tropical flavours, spice and oak influence.

Since releasing their first bottle in 2008, the Kavalan range has expanded and includes core and limited single malts. These include the Classic, Sherry Oak and Distillery Select. Some expressions now also show the name King Car Whisky.
