Born from the wild shores of Islay, Octomore is Bruichladdich Distillery’s most daring experiment—an exploration of extremes in peat, purity and provenance. Each release is a statement of intent, and Octomore 16.2 is no exception.

Crafted from 100% Scottish mainland Concerto barley and peated to an punchy 101.4 PPM,Octomore 16.2 continues the story set by 16.1. While sharing the same raw ingredients, 16.2 is bottled at 58.1% ABV and matured in a striking cask combination: Oloroso and Bordeaux wine casks, finished in Madeira and Portuguese Moscatel. These casks bring opulence and depth, creating a whisky that’s rich, layered, and unmistakably refined—an exquisite counterpoint to the ex-bourbon purity of 16.1.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich and aromatic, with notes of caramelised sugar, roasted almonds, and dried figs. Beneath the sweetness, waves of dark berries, leather, and smouldering peat drift in, accented by subtle hints of spiced oak and wine-soaked fruit.

Palate

Velvety and full-bodied, with flavours of toffee-drenched dates, black cherries, and candied orange peel. The influence of fortified wine casks shines through with layers of honeyed spice and stewed fruit, enveloped in warming, sweet campfire smoke and a touch of maritime salinity.

Finish

Long, elegant and evolving. Lingering notes of cocoa-dusted nuts, wine-soaked wood, and dried apricot fade into soft, glowing embers of oak and peat smoke.
