Opened in 2014 on an idyllic rural site near Bassenthwaite, this independent distillery not only boasts its own bistro and distillery tours, but also produces three premium spirits: gin, vodka, and whisky. Using fresh water from the river Derwent and classic botanicals native to the Cumbrian fells like juniper, bilberry, heather, and meadowsweet, The Lakes gin is an authentic, locally made spirit. Their rhubarb and rosehip gin has been a particularly popular release, as well as delectable flavours like elderflower and pink grapefruit (the latter of which received a Gold Outstanding award at the 2022 International Wine and Spirit competition).

The Lakes vodka collection also makes the most of its surrounding resources, using the finest British wheat and pure water from the Lake District National Park. As well as their original recipe — which is perfect for cocktails or simply sipping over ice — their salted caramel vodka is also a firm favourite for those looking for a sweeter tipple.
