Dating back to 1823, although illicit whisky production in the area is thought to predate this, Auchentoshan is a distillery with a long and interesting history. Perhaps one of the most well-known in the Lowlands region of Scotland, it is situated on the edge of Clydebank (not far from Glasgow) and uses the nearby Kilpatrick Hills as its water source.
Although classically Lowland in style, Auchentoshan is one of only a few Scotch distilleries that use triple distillation in their production process. This is something more typical of Irish whiskey and results in a softer and lighter spirit, making it particularly approachable for new drinkers and experienced enthusiasts alike.
The core range offers a variety of expressions, from the entry-level Auchentoshan American Oak to the premium 21 Year Old Single Scotch Whisky. They also have limited edition offerings, including the Bartender’s Malt, which is an interesting collaboration with some of the world’s best bartenders. All maintain that mellow character, with signature notes of vanilla, grass and a little oak spice.
