Aultmore
Aultmore is a Speyside distillery in Moray. It was built in 1895 by Alexander Edward, the owner of Benrinnes, with the output mainly being used for other blended whiskies. Official releases have typically been hard to come by, although independent bottlers, such as Douglas Laing, have presented opportunities to sample the distillery.
The whisky from Aultmore is known for its light style – which is why it’s popular with blenders. It has grassy and floral notes, with flavours of oak and spice.
Much of the distillery’s production is used for Dewar’s blends, as well as Johnnie Walker, but since John Dewar’s & Sons (a subsidiary of Barcadi) purchased the brand, we have seen a number of official releases. This includes a 12 and 18 year old.
