Balcones

Balcones is a unique craft distillery in Texas. It was founded in 2008 by Chip Tate, who wanted to create innovative (but authentic) Texas spirits. The distillery is located in a transformed welding shop in Waco, with most of the equipment being made by Chip and his team. 

Balcones’ style is rich and oily, with nutty, earthy and light peppery notes. Although not overly smokey, the Brimstone expression is smoked using Texas scrub oak, to create a campfire-like flavour. 

Their first release was Baby Blue, which is still a popular bottling in their core range. It’s made from blue corn and was the first Texas whiskey to hit the market since prohibition. Other offerings include a single malt, rye and pot still bourbon.
