Ballechin

Ballechin is a range of single malt Scotch whisky produced by the Edradour Distillery in Pitlochry. The original Ballechin Distillery closed in 1927, but Edradour resurrected the brand name in 2002 for its heavily peated series.

With phenol levels of at least 50ppm, which is the same as Ardbeg, these whiskies are full of intense flavour. A variety of cask types are used for maturation, including ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and virgin oak, while the likes of madeira, port and various wine barrels have also been previously adopted for different finishes (mostly seen in The Discovery Series).

The flagship bottling from the core range is the Ballechin 10 Year Old. This has been aged in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, resulting in an earthy and chocolatey dram with a wisp of sweet smoke.
