Benromach

Benromach is a Speyside whisky distillery near the Morayshire town of Forres. It opened in 1893, and after changing hands numerous times and facing a series of closures, was bought in 1993 by Gordan & MacPhail. It’s the smallest operating distillery in Scotland, being run by just two people!

Despite being a Speyside whisky, Benromach is unique for its use of lightly peated barley. This results in a subtly smokey spirit, which is unusual for the region. They also use ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks for maturation, which adds vanilla and fruity notes.

Their range includes a number of aged expressions, as well as their Contrasts Series, which looks to release whiskies that differ from their usual profile. This includes the Organic bottling, which was the first single malt to be certified by the Soil Association.
