Mac-Talla

Mac-Talla is a brand of Scotch whisky from Islay. It was formed by the Morrison family, a famous name in the industry that had previously owned Bowmore and Auchenthoshan. Mac-Talla, which means ‘echo’ in Gaelic, is their latest venture and it aims to introduce Islay whisky traditions to a new generation. 

The whisky comes from unnamed distilleries and showcases the style of the Hebridean island. Mac-Talla chooses unique expressions, of varying peat intensities, and matures them in American oak casks – although sherry and rum casks have also been used for finishing. 

The Mac-Talla Terra is the entry-level release, which was launched in 2021. ‘Terra’ refers to the earth and is indicative of this single malt’s character. It’s been aged in American oak and bottled at 46% ABV. Most of their expressions are no age statements, but Strata is a 15 year old whisky that’s spent time in a combination of bourbon and sherry barrels. There’s also a limited edition rum-finished Mac-Talla of the same age.
