Pusser's
Pusser’s Rum is a brand of rum from the British Virgin Islands. It has a strong naval history and was launched in 1979, just seven years after the navy stopped the rum ration. The founder is Charles Tobias, a sailor who secured the original Royal Navy recipe from the Admiralty. In exchange, an ongoing donation is made to the Royal Navy Sailors Fund.
The recipe is made up of a blend of rums from Guyana and Trinidad. It’s distilled in a double wooden pot still and aged for at least three years in charred ex-bourbon barrels. The West Indies climate helps the rum mature faster and extract more depth of flavour from the wood.
Pusser’s Blue Label is the flagship bottling, which brings the strength of the original recipe down from 54.5% to 40% ABV. This means it can be brought back to naval bases, as they won’t allow anything stronger than this. The higher strength expression can be found in the Gunpowder Proof release. Their range also includes a 15 year old age rum, a spiced rum and the limited edition Deptford Dockyard.
