Tamdhu

Launched in 1897, and now owned by Ian McLeod Distillers, Tamdhu is a highly regarded brand of Speyside whisky from the village of Knockando. Since the 1990s, they have developed a reputation for sherry maturation and this has become the distillery’s signature style.

While Tamdhu produces a range of fantastic single malts, they are perhaps more widely known as a contributor to blends. These include Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark. As well as supplying whisky, they also make and share their own malt with other distilleries – such as Glenrothes.

Tamdhu, which means ‘little dark hill’ in Gaelic, is deep and rich, with notes of fruit cake, cinnamon and chocolate. This character is perfectly sampled in the Tamdhu 12, with other age statements including the 15 and 18 year olds. Alternatively, you could choose the popular batch strength expression, which bottled at 57.5% ABV, offers a more intense experience.
