Named after the Iowa city where the distillery is based, Templeton is a brand of rye whiskey with a strong American heritage. It was established in the 1920s during Prohibition after the city’s residents started producing a spirit known as ‘The Good Stuff’. This was particularly popular in speakeasies in nearby Kansas and Chicago. The brand became official in 2006.
Templeton distills fine rye grain and ages it in charred American oak. Maturation takes at least four years, and benefits from the unique Iowa climate. The extreme fluctuation in temperature can lead to more interaction between spirit and wood, resulting in a bolder flavour.
The Templeton Rye 4 Year Old is the signature release. It’s sweet, spicy and punchy, making it perfect for cocktails. They also offer a range of other expressions, including a 6 year old and 10 year old, a sherry cask finish and a bourbon.
