Japanese Gin

While gin might be more associated with the English countryside, Japanese expressions have grown in popularity over recent years and developed a deserved reputation for quality.

The production of Japanese gin benefits from the unique climate and the distinct four seasons that the country experiences – but it’s the use of botanicals that is perhaps most notable to the consumer. As well as traditional botanicals of juniper, citrus and coriander seeds, they may also use local ingredients such as yuzu, cherry blossom and green tea.

As opposed to the barley or wheat used in classic gins, Japanese gin may be distilled using rice or corn, which comes from the process of making shochu or whisky.

Arguably the most recognisable brand is Ki No Bi, from the Kyoto Distillery. Other well-known names include Roku, Nikka Coffey Gin and Kyro Gin

At House of Malt, we stock a variety of premium gins from Japan and offer free delivery on orders over £90.
