Honey Liqueur

With ancient origins and reputed medicinal benefits, honey liqueurs are a popular drink with a long and interesting history. They are known for their smooth and sweet character, and are frequently enjoyed in cocktails.

Honey liqueurs are made by adding honey to a distilled spirit such as vodka, brandy or whisky. The type of honey used can vary and can include anything from orange blossom to manuka. Spices, herbs and other flavourings may also be added to create different profiles.

One of the most popular honey liqueurs is Irish Mist. This was created in the 1940s by the Tullamore distillery, but is based on an old recipe developed by monks. It combines Irish whiskey, honey and spices to deliver a smooth and distinct expression. Other well know drinks in this category include Drambuie, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey, and Bärenjäger (which is particularly big in Germany).
