Jura 14 Year Old American Rye Cask is a celebration of Jura’s bright community spirit; a close-knit group of around 212 individuals. Matured in American white oak ex bourbon and hand selected American Rye barrels, the casks deliver depth and complexity to the 14-year-old single malt with layered spice, aromatic, herbal and floral qualities.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Citrus and vanilla character is balanced with the herbal and floral aromas of the American Rye barrels, delivering aromas of mango, fresh mint and crushed almonds.

Palate

Taste toffee apple richness and pecan pie with layers of cinnamon, vibrant vanilla, honey, cacao and hazelnut.

Finish

Warm and nutty with notes of toffee, maple syrup, guava and soft wood spices.

A Word About Jura

Here is a truly Hebridean whisky that’s produced around 60 miles from the Islay mainland. Whisky has been made on the site since the 19th century and it is the only distillery on an island of just 200 people. The Jura we know today was built in the 1960s and is owned by Whyte & Mackay.

Despite its proximity to Islay, Jura has traditionally been more Highland in character. Peated expressions weren’t included in the range until 2002, and it’s only in recent years that the brand has taken on a subtly smokey quality.

Jura has an extensive range of different ages and finishes. Their aged bottlings include 10, 12 and 18 year old single malts. The previous entry level expression had been the Jura Journey, but this has since been replaced by the Bourbon Cask, which is said to be an approachable introduction to the brand.
