Founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, Glengyle distillery is a historic cornerstone of Campbeltown's whisky heritage. Despite flourishing initially, it succumbed to the early 20th-century challenges of economic downturns, Prohibition, and changing tastes, leading to its closure in 1925. The distillery lay dormant until 2004 when Hedley G. Wright, a descendant of the founder, revitalized Glengyle, blending modern innovation with traditional craftsmanship. One of the first releases in their core range, Kilkerran 12 Year Old is known for its meticulous cask selection. Matured in a combination of 70% bourbon casks and 30% sherry casks, this whisky achieves a perfect harmony of flavours. The bourbon casks impart a classic sweetness and depth, while the sherry casks contribute layers of complexity and a rich, fruit-laden character. This strategic cask make-up ensures a multifaceted profile, offering a rich tapestry of flavours that encapsulate the essence of Campbeltown malts.
