Penderyn's Rich Oak expression was originally a limited edition release but has since has become a permanent part of the Welsh distillery's range. This single malt is initially aged in bourbon casks, and then transferred for a period in rejuvenated European ex-wine casks, adding an extra dimension of fruit and spice to the Welsh single malt.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Honeyed cereal and tangy tropical fruits. A whiff of old oak furniture hangs around in the background.

Palate

Spiced apple cider, generous vanilla, toasted barley and waxy peels.

Finish

Banana fritters, more honey, subtly floral as it dissipates.

A Word About Penderyn

Founded in a small village in the Brecon Beacons, Penderyn is a Welsh whisky distillery that opened in 2000 - making it the first distillery to launch in Wales for more than 100 years.

Their whisky is made using a unique copper single-pot still (that leads to a spirit of an industry-high 92% ABV!) and is matured in ex-bourbon barrels. The result is a light and fruity flavour profile, with notes of vanilla and oak.

Early bottlings were finished in Madeira casks, giving the brand a signature style, but they have since advanced to Sherrywood, Portwood and Peated expressions.

Winning more than 100 awards, and with new distilleries in Llandudno and Swansea, it’s exciting times for Penderyn.
