Rampur is a super single malt from India. This is the Double Cask expression, which spent some of its life in American oak bourbon barrels and some in European oak sherry casks. A great balance of dry sherry spice and layers of creamy tropical fruit.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Cooked banana, with peppery oak, plump raisin and honey.

Palate

Barley sugar, earthy vanilla pod, dark berries and a symphony of baking spices.

Finish

A lengthy, sherried finish of dry spice and chocolate.

A Word About Rampur

Rampur is a brand of Indian single malt whisky from Radico Khaitan, one of the country’s largest spirits companies. Despite producing whisky for more than half a century, it wasn’t until 2016 that they finally released their first expression for export.

Radico Khaitan, which was previously known as Rampur Distillery, is located in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state. From the Himalayan foothills, it’s been producing whisky since the 1940s, but only recently has the name been seen overseas. They use traditional methods to craft high quality whisky, utilising copper pot stills, new American oak barrels and Spanish sherry butts. The distillery is also powered by biogas, making it completely self-sufficient.

Their 2016 release was the Rampur Single Malt, a rich and smooth offering with notes of vanilla and dried fruits. The Double Cask adds more sherry depth on the palate, but for something a little different, the Asava uses Indian Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks for extra spice.
