Mackmyra

Mackmyra is a Swedish whisky distillery that’s come a long way since being founded in 1999. The Valbo-based distillery might be the only one in the country, but it’s helped put Scandinavian whisky on the map with a wide range of high-quality and innovative single malts. 

Mackmyra has two active distilleries and a combined production capacity of 2.4 million bottles per year – putting it on par with some of the biggest names in Scotch. The second distillery, which opened in Gävle in 2011, is seven stories high and run on gravity.

They offer peated and non-peated expressions, using Swedish oak and local ingredients. Their debut release was the First Edition, in 2008, which has now entered the core range in the form of Svensk Ek. This was closely followed by the popular Brukswhisky in 2010. Since then, the distillery has developed a reputation for experimentation and an array of special editions. This includes the birch sap wine finished Bjorksav, which is part of a series that celebrates seasons.
