A truly incredible bottle of whisky by Macallan to commemorate the turn of the millennium. This fine single malt is among the most desirable and sought after whiskies in the world, and represents the most luxurious of Macallan, not only in presentation and quality, but also in rarity and age.

This whisky was highly rated by Michael Jackson, the late whisky connoisseur author, and remains a proud accomplishment of then Master Distiller, David Robertson. Bottled in May 1999, this Macallan 50 years old was crafted by marrying 3 casks that were filled on the same day, 14th January 1949.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Toffee and sherry blend seamlessly, creating a rich and decadent aroma. This is complemented by notes of red apple, soft peat smoke and the subtle sweetness of grape mist, lending a sumptuous and enticing complexity to the nose. The overall impression is both sweet and luxuriously decadent.

Palate

The palate is adorned with a stunning combination of raisin, dates, burnt tobacco & honeycomb. Vanilla and liquorice weave through, showcasing Macallan’s signature richness. Despite the age, the whisky remains vigorous, with luscious notes of nougat and dried fruits that transition into subtler hints of citrus peel, cocoa, and beeswax.

Finish

The finish is remarkably light yet complex, allowing malt, spice, and a whisper of smoke to emerge gracefully. Super fine tannins introduce a drying sensation, adding texture and depth to the aftertaste. This culminates in a delicate yet persistent finale, echoing with notes of nougat and beeswax, showcasing an impressive length that reflects its half-century maturation.
