In a first for the Octomore .4 series, this edition showcases barley from Octomore Farm matured in an inspired union of bourbon barrels and French virgin oak casks. The farm-grown barley imparts a gentle, earthy depth, while the bourbon wood layers in notes of toasted oak, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and a delicate thread of sweet smoke. The influence of French virgin oak lends a poise and complexity that belies the whisky’s mere five years of age.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Intense waves of smoke give way to the rich, caramelised sweetness of toasted virgin French oak. Warming spices—cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove—intertwine with the scent of baked apples and honey-draped pears. Through it all, the peat remains unwavering, threading its unmistakable presence through every layer of oak and spice.

Palate

Toasted oak, roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, and a flicker of sweet smoke take centre stage. Stewed apples and pears bring a welcome fruit-laden balance to the oak’s depth. The barley introduces a gentle, earthy undertone reminiscent of rain-soaked soil, while the smoke supports the flavour profile without ever overpowering it.

Finish

A remarkably long and satisfying finish, where sweet, toasted wood and warm baking spices slowly unfurl. A final whisper of smoke lingers, joined by a hint of fruit and a subtle touch of sea salt that settles gracefully on the palate.
