A blend of the two premium whiskey styles (Irish Single Malt and Single Pot Still) aged in two types of wood – American and French Oak. It's the result of a collaboration between the Walsh family in Ireland’s County Carlow and the Legaret family in Cognac, France. While American oak is now commonplace in whisky maturation, the use of French oak was widespread through the 17th and 18th centuries.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Spiced and stewed orchard fruits, lots of sweet and earthy vanilla pod with a side of pear crumble.

Palate

Juicy white stone fruits, lychee and lemon peel with a hint of grape skin dryness.

Finish

Rich and aromatic spiced dark chocolate.

A Word About Writers Tears

Writers Tears is a brand of Irish whiskey from the Walsh Whiskey Distillery. The distillery is based in County Carlow and launched Writers Tears in 2009. It’s influenced by traditional Irish whiskey from the 19th century and inspired by the relationship that the spirit has with artists, poets and creative thinkers.

Writers Tears uses single pot still and single malt Irish whiskey. Their expressions are non-peated, triple distilled and matured in American oak barrels. It’s known for its soft and creamy profile, with notes of malt, fruit and oak.

The flagship expression is the Writers Tears Copper Pot Irish Whiskey, but the core range also includes the Red Head, and the Double Oak. The former is a richer release that’s been matured in ex-Oloroso sherry casks, while the Double Oak is a collaboration with the Legaret family, in Cognac, and is a flavourful marriage of American oak and French oak casks.
