Port Charlotte

Port Charlotte is the name given to Bruichladdie’s peated output. The range was introduced in 2006 and is a tribute to the former Lochindaal distillery that once belonged on the island – of which Bruichladdie has purchased the remaining buildings with the hopes of using them for distillation in the future.

These are heavily peated Islay single malts, with phenol levels of 40ppm – which is greater than your typical Talisker or Lagavulin. They have a smokey and salty profile, but with a creamy mouthfeel for balance. The brand also experiments with different cask finishes, such as the Port Charlotte 9 Year Old, which uses Pomerol casks for added notes of rich fruit.

The first Port Charlotte began production in 2001 and was launched five years later; the PC5. The flagship bottle is now the 10 Year Old, which hit shelves in 2018. It’s a classic Islay whisky, with a delicious maritime quality.
