Royal Lochnagar

Located just one mile from Balmoral Castle, Royal Lochnagar is a Highland distillery that was reportedly a favourite of Queen Victoria. The distillery opened in 1826 and received its royal warrant in 1848 – one of only five scotches to have this honour.

Royal Lochnagar is a relatively small operation of limited production. While much of its output is used for high-end blends, such as Johnnie Walker, single malts are available – although the small capacity makes them sought after.

The distillery style is smooth, sweet and oaky. Their only permanent bottling is the 12 Year Old, although limited edition expressions, such as the Select Reserve, are occasionally released.
