Founded in 1859, Maison Louis Jadot has long been admired for its dedication to the traditions of Burgundian winemaking, while embracing the nuances that each vineyard imparts to its wines. Clos Vougeot, located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, is home to the largest single Grand Cru vineyard in Burgundy. Enclosed by an ancient stone wall, the vineyard's history dates back to the 12th century when it was established by Cistercian monks. The diversity in soil types, ranging from limestone at the top to richer clay and loam at the bottom, along with slight variations in microclimate, contributes to the complexity of the wines produced here. Louis Jadot's parcels are well-situated, allowing for the production of wines that are robust yet refined, with the capacity to age beautifully.
This vintage was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, showcases meticulous winemaking that enhances complexity and texture. This period in oak adds vanilla and spice, softens tannins, and beautifully integrates flavours. The 2013 vintage in Burgundy faced challenges, with a cold, wet spring reducing yields and a late-season improvement allowing grapes to ripen adequately. The resulting wine is distinguished by its bright acidity and structured tannins, reflecting the terroir's mineral qualities and the vintage's resilience. Despite the difficult weather, careful vineyard management by Louis Jadot produced a wine of remarkable structure and finesse, exemplifying the quality of the Clos Vougeot Grand Cru in a demanding year.
